When Your Team Is Agents and Humans, Coordination Cost Is Everything

Desde el escritorio · por qué importa

If you are designing a system where agents handle execution, the drag you feel is almost never capability — it is the overhead of keeping everyone, human and silicon alike, aligned. Avichal Garg's thinking lands differently once you read it that way.

Garg's core argument in Focus on Building 10x Teams is that the mythical 10x individual is mostly a distraction. The real multiplier is structural: a team where trust is high, strengths fit together without overlap, and the cost of coordination stays low. Raw talent has diminishing returns once you hit a certain threshold; the compounding happens in the connective tissue — shared context, clean handoffs, enough psychological safety that people flag problems early instead of hiding them.

Swap some of those team members for agents and Garg's logic does not break — it sharpens. An agent with strong raw capability but fuzzy scope creates exactly the coordination tax he warns against: humans second-guessing outputs, re-checking decisions, inserting themselves into every handoff. The 10x team principle asks you to design agent roles the way you would design human ones — clear ownership, complementary function, and trust that is earned through demonstrated reliability rather than assumed. Low coordination cost is an architecture choice, not a personality trait.

Llévate esto a tu agente
  • Design agent roles around complementary function, not maximum capability
  • coordination overhead kills compound returns faster than weak models do
  • trust between humans and agents must be earned through observable track records, not granted upfront.
